Baking Soda Shampoo Okay for Color Treated Hair?

by Joanne

Is this system of cleaning the hair suitable for color treated hair? I use Herbatint color products bought from the health food store. I tried using Borax and water to clean my hair but it stripped the color out. My hair tends to be dry.

Thanks and you have a very informative site!

Hi Joanne,

If you are new to this all natural hair care method, I wouldn't recommend it with dyed hair.

The baking soda shampoo will strip away the color if used too frequently.

However, if you've been using this method for a while, it will actually prolong your color.

That's because using baking soda as a shampoo and vinegar as a wash won't strip the natural oils out of your hair. That means you'll have to wash your hair a lot less frequently then you would if you used regular shampoo.

The less you wash your hair, the longer the color lasts.

Wishing you the best of health,
