Immune System Benefits of Vitamin E

The benefits of vitamin E leave little doubt that it is another important immune system vitamin.

The need for vitamin E in regards to enhancing the immune system get even more critical as we age, so we can't leave it off of this immune boosting list.

When we get older, we become more susceptible to infections and illnesses. Taking Vitamin E, however, helps level the playing field and gives our immune system a shot of "youth."

The facts about vitamin E show that it is an incredible antioxidant that does a great job in fighting off infections.

Although it is does fall into a secondary position when compared to the benefits of vitamin C.

Supplements are a must with this vitamin, as there are few good food sources of vitamin E.

Dosages anywhere from 200 IU to 1200 IU have been shown to enhance even an already strong immune system - as long as the vitamin E is from natural sources.

Natural vitamin E comes in several forms. The easiest to find are d-alpha-tocopherol, d-alpha-tocopherol acetate, and d-alpha-tocopherol succinate. The "d" in front is important to look for. It means that the vitamin has been derived from natural sources.

You'll want to avoid the synthetic form of vitamin E, the dl-alpha tocopherol form, as it is made from a petroleum base. Note the "dl" as opposed to the "d" in front. Read those labels closely.

Be careful not to take too much vitamin E, as this is another one of those fat-soluble vitamins. The body has a harder time dumping the vitamin's excesses.

Also keep in mind that you'll require more of this vitamin if you consume a lot of polyunsaturated fats found in vegetable oils. Because of the way these oils are improperly processed, free radicals are created and lots of vitamin E is used up thwarting their attacks.

The other vitamin E benefits besides boosting the immune system are really quite impressive. It can prevent heart disease, all kinds of cancers, blood disorders, vision loss, arthritis, and much more.
