Rebounder and Pregnancy

by Nicole

I'm just wondering if it is safe to use the rebounder during pregnancy? Thanks.

ANSWER

Hi Nicole,

Great question. But first I must say that I am not a doctor, nor do I want to be one. Always consult with your doctor before beginning any new exercise regimen.

Okay, with that out of the way - here is an excerpt from Al Carter's Reboundologist Student Manual. Al Carter is considered to be the "father" of the rebounder.

"Many obstetricians will warn pregnant women to curtail their exercise programs for at least the third trimester of their pregnancy. This is easy to understand especially because some of the common types of exercise available to them are jogging, high impact aerobics, or weightlifting. Each of these could be damaging to the baby and the mother.

Rebounder exercises using the gentle health bounce and walking or jogging on the rebounder, can stimulate greater circulation to all the cells including the placenta, and the yet to be born baby. The baby is stronger at birth because of the G-force loading.

Laboratory studies on rats indicate that exercise by a mother stimulates the vestibular system or the inner ear of the baby inside the mother. This produces a better sense of balance for the baby thus giving the child a head start."

Hope that answers your question.

Don't forget to take advantage of other rebounder benefits after your pregnancy - with and without the baby in your arms (babies do love bouncing after all).

Let me know if you have any other questions.

ANSWER

Hi Mary,

Rebounding while pregnant is a great idea - both for you and the baby. The key is to be GENTLE about it and only use a high-quality rebounder.

Health bouncing and walking in place are ideal.

See the response I gave to Nicole for more details.
